First shown at the Aotearoa Art Fair earlier this year, this body of work features five new ‘standing songs’—totemic sculptures made from black coated sand. Continuing my collaboration with poet Jenny Bornholdt, these pieces bring together sculptural form and language. Jenny’s short, poetic phrases are cast into vertical structures that stand like physical poems—anchored, quiet, and resonant.
Also included was Stone, a single wall-mounted disk and a new direction in my practice. Featuring a four-line poem by Jenny, its words are spun on a circular axis. Playful and open-ended, Stone invites multiple readings and offers a light-hearted take on summer stone fruit—exploring how language might move in sculptural space, not just stand within it.
'Bright Eye of Bird' was my finalist entry in this year’s RT Nelson Sculpture Awards.
